Windows tips and tricks |
Change your computer properties |
Ok this one is a little advanced you can go to the others they aren't as hard. |
| You should see the section on COPY AND PASTE below
Open up oeminfo.ini file in your windows\system directory (folder) |
To force a refresh of the website in case it changed |
| Hold down the Ctrl key down (left corner of the keyboard) and press the F5 key (top row of keys where you see F1, F2 etc) you could use the mouse and Ctrl key if you know where the refresh icon is or View - Refresh (where it says at the top File Edit VIEW) Now I know this works with Internet Explorer I'm not sure about Netscape. |
Copy and Paste |
| To copy and paste is easy: 1.) Go to your desktop and somewhere where there are no icons just empty space right click the mouse select NEW then TEXT DOCUMENT, double click that to open it. 2.) Now go to a web page (right here if you like) put the mouse at the end of a sentence hold the left mouse button down and drag it to the beginning of the sentence. You have just highlighted a couple of sentences, now somewhere where you just highlighted hit the right mouse button and select copy. 3.) Go back to your desktop and where you have the Text Document open put the mouse somewhere in the blank area of the Text Document hit the right mouse button and select paste. Presto you did it! you copied your text from the web page to the text Document, you can save it or print it. This will work on anyplace you can highlight an area. |
Did you ever want to save a picture you saw on the web? (Piece of cake) |
| Put your mouse over the picture you want hit the right mouse button (RMB) and select SAVE PICTURE AS of course you have to know where you put it (a window pops up and shows you a place) if you want to save it in my docs just hit the down arrow and select from what it shows you or even make a new folder by clicking on the new folder option icon that's the one with the star burst on the folder and give it a name. |
This one has nothing to do with windows |
| Try adding a teaspoon of Honey to the coffee grounds (in A drip coffee maker) it takes the bitter edge off the coffee. |
SPLIT SCREENS |
| If you where doing a copy and paste from a web page to a Text Doc you could go to the task bar (in an empty area) the task bar is the bar that the start button and the clock are on, and a couple of more things. Right Mouse button and select Tile Windows Horizontally or vertically which ever you like. Cool Huh? Of course if you have more than 2 windows open it can get crowded try just working with 2. |
Here's one for those of you who have a Wheel on your mouse |
| Hold the shift key down and move the wheel up and down you go forward and backward on the web pages (no big deal) But this one is great NOW HOLD down the control key and move the wheel and watch the text on the web page get larger and smaller, cool huh? |
Find a file or folder fast |
| When you open your hard drive looking for a file or folder hit the letter on the keyboard that the file / folder name starts with keep hitting the same letter until the file / folder is highlighted. |
SHIFT KEY |
| Hold the sift key down and hit enter (when in email or in word pad) for tighter sentences. (like I'm doing here)
oops I didn't use the shift key when I hit the enter key. Ok so you find yourself with a bunch of windows opened up say 6 deep what do you do? clutter, clutter well select the last window before the window you really want hold the shift key down and hit the X in the upper right hand corner (close) and all the windows will close at once! leaving the last window open (say if you have 1,2,3,4,5,6 open select number 5 and hit the X then 1,2,3,4,5 disappear leaving number 6 open) |
You have to remember |
| Internet Explorer is what windows is based on so whatever works in one place will do the same thing in another. Example: Open your C Drive now go up in that window that shows a little icon of a drive followed by C:\ and type in a web address like www.cvideocny.com (what else did you expect?) then hit enter you go to that site 'cause that's your browser get it? |
Filling out Web forms |
| Ever get tired trying to line up your mouse when filling out forms on web pages jumping from one window to the next , or miss one well let me help with the TAB key so you fill out your name TAB address TAB, City TAB, Zip code TAB. What I'm trying to show you is use the TAB key to jump from one window to the next (You can't miss a window) Now remember everything is the same go to your desktop and hit the TAB key and watch what it does when you see it on the start button hit enter up arrow enter then TAB, TAB, Enter that should wind up on cancel (when you hit enter it better be on cancel) You can get a program to fill in forms and a password saver at www.gator.com for free. |
Browser: An Easy Way To Get There |
| No need to type the www. and the .com how? like this Just type the place you want to go like cvideocny now hold down the Ctrl key down and hit enter Presto! the www. and the .com where put in where they belong automagically! cool huh? Just think of the Ctrl as dot and the Enter key as com. |
